Abstract:
Background: Ethiopia is gifted with a wide range of potentially useful medicinal plant species. In Ethiopia the majority of people who live rural areas mainly use the traditional medicines to meet their primarily heath care needs. Phytochemical are chemicals produces by plants and they have better compatibility with the human body. Objective: The aim of the this study was to screen the different Phytochemical of essentialoils extracted from P.dedecandra, L.sativum, R.chalepensis and M.ferruginea using prescribed methods. Methods: Essential oils of the four plants were obtained by Soxhlet extraction of plant seeds using n-hexane and qualitative Phytochemical analysis was performed for the presence of various secondary metabolites ; alkaloids, glycosides, steroids, phenols, terpinoides, resins, carboxylic acid, saponins, flavonoids, diterpenes, proteins and amino acids using a standard procedures. Result: The result shows that the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, steroids, phenols, terpinoides, resins, carboxylic acid, saponins, flavonoids, diterpenes, proteins and amino acids.Conclusion:The finding of this study suggested that these plant seeds could be a positive source of natural antioxidants that could have great importance as therapeutic agents in preventing or slowing the progress of ageing and age associated oxidative stress. Further studies are therefore required to purify, isolate and characterize the active ingredients present in the plant seed extracts to ensure that the plants have novel and medicinal properties.
