Abstract:
Background. In Ethiopia, the health care services are limited and of poor quality, which is a
direct reflection of the countries socioeconomic status. It is takes the lion share for the higher
morbidity and mortality of the population due to the emerging and reemerging infectious and
chronic health problems in the nation. Lower life expectancy rate of the peoples in the nation is
a clear indication for this. However, enhancing patient satisfaction in low-income settings is very
challenging due to the inadequate resources and low health literacy among patients.
Objective:- To assess patient satisfaction and its associated factors among public and private
hospitals in Bahir Dar city, North West Ethiopia, 2024; a comparative cross sectional study.
Methods. An institution-based cross-sectional study will be conducted in Bahir Dar. A
systematic random sampling method will be used to select the participants. A total of 698
participants will be included in the study. The data will be collected by trained data collectors
using a questionnaire. Data will be entered into epi INFO and analyzed using SPSS version 26.
The findings will be presented with a descriptive summary using percentages, frequency, table,
and graph. Logistic regression will be made to assess the association between a dependent
variable and the independent variable. Variables with p values less than 0.2 in bivariable logistic
regression will be candidates for multivariable logistic regression. P values less than 0.05 in
multivariate logistic regression will be considered as significantly associated with the dependent
variable.
Result: A total of 698 study participants were participated in the study with 95.4% response rate. More
than half, 57.6% of study participant’s sex were male. Almost all, 98.4% of study participants had care
taker .More than half,57% of study participants were satisfied on the service received. Almost all,
99.1% of study participant’s length of stay were less than 7 days. More than three fourth, 67.7%
participants types of service served was out patient service. More than half, 54.4% of study
participants served in private hospitals were satisfied on the service. Types of facility, age,
having care taker, admission type and payment status were significantly associated with patient
satisfaction
